What is it?
According to the World Health Organization, coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause symptoms ranging from the common cold to more severe illnesses. The novel coronavirus is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.
What are we doing at JPS Health Network?
At JPS, we have coordinated readiness efforts between many teams around the network to ensure our process and protocol align and remain consistent. A new screening process has been established as patients are being triaged in our clinics. Providers will now ask additional questions about a patient’s travel history if they arrive with a fever and respiratory symptoms.
We continue to educate our staff, patients and visitors about the virus through physical signage, digital slides and screensavers, the JPS public site and internal intranet pages, MyChart, Epic, social media platforms and various multimedia projects. Frequent updates from public health agencies are being posted on many of these platforms, as well.
What do you need to know?
The CDC suggests that you perform the following basic infection prevention measures to ensure you remain healthy:
- Cover your cough
- Wear a mask
- Wash your hands
